How startup for startups work?
- How is intellectual property protected?
Wissen executed non-disclosure and non-competency agreements with all its partners. Also, engineers working on a startup idea execute non-disclosure agreements with the company. We provide separation of code repositories using virtual LANs. All the data (documents, code, wiki pages) are protected using firewalls and other tools.
- No profit, no loss. Really?
Wissen is interested in growing with the startup. We want to support an idea we find interesting to grow into multi-million dollar business creating value for all the stake holders involved. We want to work closely with great ideas and people and help them build great product. That's why we work on no-profit no-loss basis. The minor equity is also shared only after first few weeks/months of engagement, typically after beta version launch or before Series A funding.
- I do a job and have a great concept. Is Wissen interested?
Startup for startups is ideally suited for people who have great concept, but want to evolve the concept before committing full time. This allows them to build a first cut and much lower costs which mean VC money is not required at very early stage. So, even if founding team is big (3-5 people) then couple of them can still be in job and use the money to fund the development. Currently we are working with 2 such companies.
- Distributed team in early stage development. Is it really recommended?
Even though teams will be distributed, they won’t be disconnected. We have defined set of processes which make sure that startup team and Wissen team work in closely connected environment. Using modern communication techniques, desktop sharing utilities, we even do pair programming where team is distributed.
- Do I have to sign exclusivity contracts with Wissen?
No. You can work with other service providers simultaneously if you want any specific expertise which Wissen is not able to provide.
- Does startup for startups works with community based projects?
Yes. We are open to work with open source community based projects. Though engagement models for them differ from others.
- How Wissen handle conflict of interest?
At startup for startups, we avoid working on multiple startups with similar or overlapping concepts. Growth of Wissen is dependent upon success of startups we incubate, hence it’s important to us that we focus on one startup in one particular domain.
